Metro Mayoral Candidate speaks at AGM

2016_swbrum_ld_beverley_nielsen_speak_whistle.jpgAt our AGM last week, we elected our new committee and council candidates, ready to continue our local campaign work and begin preparing for the 2018 council elections. We also welcomed Beverley Nielsen to talk to us about her campaign to be the West Midlands region's first ever Metro Mayor.

Born in the region, Beverley has worked over the past two decades to promote and aid the West Midlands. Beverley served as a Lib Dem County Councillor in Malvern Worcestershire  during which time she took outdoor education out of Council control. She formed a social enterprise run by the staff, saving 22 jobs, promoting this entrepreneurial business with the support of the County Council as a collaborative model focused on delivering greater opportunity for young people. The business has delivered +19% revenue growth +30% growth in Primary Schools and 25% net profit growth year on year. It is currently looking to diversify its offer by providing more leadership and outdoor learning opportunities for young people.

Beverley will be launching her manifesto very soon and there will be lots of work to get stuck into for local members and supporters, of all skills and backgrounds. If you are interested in getting involved, email Evelyn Armstrong at

In the meantime, check out Beverley's website for more information and to keep updated on her campaign.
